The British delegation consisted of a total of 10 people: 5 contestants, 2 leaders and 3 observers. There was also our guide, Kim Jeong-Eun (Korean family names come first - her name was Jeong-Eun (she's the one in the red t-shirt). I obviously spent most of my time with the other contestants, so here's a bit about them, along with some suitably embarrasing photos:
GBR-1: Richard Bowman
- School: Douglas Academy
- Uni: Cambridge - Computer Science and Physics
- Home: Glsagow
He was allright, i suppose. Not the smartest in the team but he had a good time anyway. (This one's me). He did, however, get on the
9 o'clock news on KBS1!!
GBR-2: Janek Kolodynski
- School: Gordonstoun Academy
- Uni: Cambridge - Natural Sciences: Physics
- Home: Poland!
He's the only one doing Physics (Natural Science) at Cambridge. Janek was my room-mate for the competition, so i got to know him fairly well. He's Polish, so he was good friends with the polish team as well, and also has a very cool accent.
GBR-3: Adam Newgas
- School: Westminster School
- Uni: Cambridge - Maths
- Home: London
The highest scorer of the team, Adam got a silver medal for his efforts in the exams. He also had the great idea to continue on in Korea for a while after the competition, so he went touring around Korea and Japan. If only the whole team had thought to do that...
GBR-4: Andrew Simons
- School: Cedars Upper School
- Uni: Cambridge - Computer Science and Physics
- Home: Beds. (That's what the sheet said...???)
Andrew also did well, winning an honourable mention. He's doing the same course as me, so I am sure I will see more of him over the next few years. Oh yes, and I should say this just to embarrass him...he was
"the cute one" according to our guide...
GBR-5: Charles Strickland-Constable
- School: St. Peter's School
- Uni: Cambridge - Maths
- Home: York
Charles was, like the others, a lot of fun. The Korean guides were all amused by his long hair, and it was the source of much amusement (like
this). He scored a bronze medal in the competition, and got into Trinity to do maths without being in the maths olympiad team...both very impressive.
